- Strong swimming ability and confidence teaching in the water.
- At least 18 years old.
- Reliable transportation to lesson locations. A driver's license is not required.
- Patience and clear communication with swimmers and their families.
Before your first lesson
- Sign the contractor agreement and complete safety and conduct training.
- Pass a background check. The cost is included with coverage enrollment.
- Enroll in the group liability coverage program. Active coverage is required before you teach.
- CPR and First Aid on file. You can apply without it and get it during onboarding.

Do I need professional experience to apply?
No. There is no minimum years of experience required to apply. Tell us about your swim background, whatever it looks like. Our team reviews every application, and access decisions are made at InstaSwim's discretion, so submitting an application does not guarantee a spot on the platform.
Is this a job with InstaSwim?
No. InstaSwim is a marketplace, not an employer. Instructors on the platform are 1099 independent contractors who run their own swim instruction businesses. You control your teaching methods, your schedule, and which clients you accept. InstaSwim does not provide employee benefits, withhold taxes, or supervise lessons.
How much do instructors earn?
Current minimum base rates are $25 per 30 minute lesson, $32 per 45 minute lesson, $40 per 60 minute lesson, $65 per 90 minute lesson, and $80 per 2 hour lesson. Many client offers also include boosted pay of up to $25 more per lesson based on location, demand, travel distance, and other factors, always stated in writing before you accept. Rates are subject to change, and InstaSwim does not guarantee any volume of offers or income.
How and when do I get paid?
After each lesson you submit a short lesson briefing through the platform. Once your briefing is approved, your payout is typically issued within 24 hours, sent directly to your PayPal account.
Do I need CPR or First Aid certification to apply?
Not to apply. You can submit your application without a certification and obtain one during onboarding. A valid CPR and First Aid certification must be on file before you accept your first client.
Do I need a car or a driver's license?
A driver's license is not required. You do need reliable transportation to and from lesson locations, whether that is a car, public transit, or another option. Instructors arrange and are responsible for their own transportation, and you set your own travel radius when considering offers.
What does onboarding include?
Invited applicants sign the independent contractor agreement, authorize a background check, complete safety and conduct training, and enroll in the platform's group general liability coverage program. The cost of your background check is included with coverage enrollment.
Where do lessons take place?
Lessons take place at pools the client arranges, most often private residential pools and community pools. InstaSwim does not provide pools, equipment, or facilities, so every lesson happens close to where families actually live.
Can I keep my own clients or work for other companies?
Yes. The platform is non-exclusive. You can run your own swim instruction business, teach for other companies, and keep clients you found on your own. The only restriction is that clients matched through InstaSwim must stay on the platform, per the contractor agreement.
