Platform Eligibility Standards
Before an instructor can accept their first client through InstaSwim, they must complete a set of administrative compliance steps. These are platform-access requirements — not interviews, evaluations, or endorsements of teaching ability. We're transparent about exactly what they are so you know what every checkmark on a profile means.
Every instructor brings their own background, training, credentials, and teaching style, and they share all of it openly on their profile for you to explore. The steps above are the administrative requirements we handle so you can focus on finding the right personal fit. They keep our marketplace running smoothly, and they are not a substitute for your own review of an instructor. Because each instructor describes their own experience and credentials, that profile information is self-reported, and our compliance steps are not an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of any particular outcome.
The 4 Layers of Water Safety
Drowning prevention isn't one thing — it's a stack of independent layers that each catch what the others miss. Swim lessons are one of those layers. Here's the full picture, so you know where lessons fit and where they don't.
Physical Barriers
Four-sided isolation fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates separates the pool from the home and play areas. Door locks and pool covers add additional barriers between the swimmer and the water.
Alarms & Alerts
Door alarms, gate alarms, and pool immersion alarms provide an immediate warning if a barrier is breached. Affordable, retrofittable, and proven to add critical seconds in an emergency.
Constant Adult Supervision
An attentive adult on the pool deck for the full duration of every lesson is required by our platform — and is the most important layer of all. Supervision is non-delegable and cannot be transferred to the instructor.
Required at Every LessonSwim Skill-Building
Private lessons build comfort, breath control, and water skills over time. Skill-building reduces the risk of drowning, though it never fully removes it, so even a confident young swimmer still needs every other layer in place. Lessons work best as one part of the whole picture.
Your Role: You're the Final Decision-Maker
You have the final say on who teaches your family. InstaSwim handles background checks, ID checks, safety & conduct compliance, and platform compliance, but we don't interview or evaluate teaching ability, so the choice of instructor is genuinely yours to make. Before any lesson begins, we send you a secure link to your matched instructor's digital profile so you can review their photo, bio, specialties, ages taught, and reviews from prior InstaSwim families. Take your time with it.
- Pre-lesson review. Read the full profile and ask questions through the platform before any in-person meeting.
- Assess fit for your family. Communication style, experience with the age group, comfort with special needs, and personality — you decide what matters.
- Absolute right to a different match. Not the right fit? Tell us before lessons begin and we'll reassign you to another available instructor. No awkwardness, no penalty.
- You stay on deck. A parent or guardian over 18 remains on the property and within view of the pool for the full duration of every lesson. This is required and non-negotiable.
- Speak up early. If something feels off — about the instructor, the lessons, or the environment — tell us. We'd much rather hear about a small concern than a big one.
Platform-Level Liability Coverage
Every lesson booked through InstaSwim is backed by professional-grade liability coverage — not a handshake. Our coverage program includes commercial general liability with an athletic-participant endorsement, a separate abuse-and-molestation rider, and additional excess coverage layered on top. Every instructor cleared to teach is enrolled before they can accept their first lesson.
- Group enrollment is required to teach. Instructors who haven't completed enrollment cannot receive client assignments — the gate is enforced at the platform level.
- Per-occurrence and aggregate limits apply. Coverage is subject to policy terms, exclusions, and the requirement that participant waivers are properly executed before lessons.
- Coverage applies during the lesson period. Per the policy, coverage is lesson-based and does not extend to arrival, departure, or non-lesson interactions.
- This is platform coverage, not your homeowner's policy. We strongly recommend you maintain your own homeowner's or renter's insurance, and consider an umbrella policy if you host lessons regularly.
Insurance exists as supplemental protection. It does not eliminate the inherent risks of aquatic activity, does not transfer your supervisory responsibilities to InstaSwim, and does not create any employment or agency relationship with any instructor.
Stay On Platform — It's How We Protect You
Our safety tools — insurance, payment security, communication records, support, and dispute resolution — only work when lessons stay on the platform. We've seen this play out enough times to be direct about it.
- All payments go through InstaSwim. Your card data is encrypted, every transaction is recorded, and you have a clear receipt and refund pathway if something goes wrong.
- Keep messaging on platform when you can. Logged communications are a real protection — for you and your instructor — if a dispute or safety question ever comes up.
- Off-platform lessons aren't covered. Our group insurance policy applies only to InstaSwim-coordinated lessons. Side-arrangements void your platform protections entirely.
What Your Instructor Does, and Doesn't, Do
Your InstaSwim instructor is here to teach swim skills during your scheduled lesson. They aren't lifeguards, babysitters, or party staff, and that simple boundary is what keeps everyone safe and properly insured.
- InstaSwim instructors do not lifeguard. This is a firm rule, not a preference. Our instructors teach swim lessons only, and our group insurance covers lessons, not lifeguarding. That means an instructor cannot watch over a pool party, a gathering, or open swim time, whether during a lesson or as a separate request. It isn't something we're able to offer at any price.
- Lessons are for teaching, not lifeguarding. Your instructor focuses fully on the student in the water, so they can't watch siblings, guests, or other swimmers. Please don't ask an instructor to lifeguard or keep an eye on the kids, even informally. They're required to say no, and it's never personal.
- An adult still supervises throughout. Even while your instructor is teaching in the water, a parent or guardian stays on deck. The instructor's attention is on the lesson, not on the pool area as a whole.
- No diving or recreational equipment. Lessons skip diving boards, slides, and jumping, and stay focused on building real swim skills.
- Keep lifeguard help separate. Need a lifeguard for a party or event? Hire a licensed lifeguarding service. Arranging lifeguarding through an InstaSwim instructor happens outside the platform and isn't covered by our group liability policy.

A few honest words for your family.
We believe in being straight with you. Water always carries some risk, and no child is ever fully “drown-proof,” even with a wonderful instructor in a perfect pool. We'd rather tell you that honestly than promise something no one can.
InstaSwim is a marketplace, not a swim school. We don't employ, train, or supervise instructors. Lessons are taught by independent contractors using their own methods and judgment. What we do is connect you, keep the screening and billing honest, and give you everything you need to choose with confidence.
That last part matters most. A caring adult watching closely is the single biggest factor in keeping any swimmer safe, and nothing replaces it. We can't offer a guarantee, because no one in swim instruction honestly can. What we can offer is straight talk, a support team that's here whenever you need it, and a platform built with your family's safety in mind.
