Experience and teaching history are provided by the instructor. Instructors are independent contractors, not InstaSwim employees. Every instructor you can be matched with has been background checked, keeps a CPR and First Aid card on file, has finished InstaSwim's safety and conduct training, and has signed the contractor agreement. These are eligibility steps, not an endorsement. Review your matched instructor's profile before your first lesson. Some instructors shown are still finishing onboarding; you are matched only with an instructor who has completed every step.

Six months to adults
Babies get water comfort with a parent. Preschoolers learn to float, kick and breathe. Older kids build strokes, and teens work on technique and endurance.

Parent and baby

Baby and toddler lessons in San JoseLearn to swim
Floating, kicking, breath control and getting back to the wall. Short, playful lessons that build confidence first.
Stroke building
Freestyle and backstroke take shape, then breaststroke and treading water, with endurance built lap by lap.
Technique and endurance

The local season, the places swimmers use, and how private lessons fit around them.
For San Jose kids, swimming starts at the pool the family already knows, a backyard pool or one at the building, condo or HOA, where a private instructor meets them in familiar water.
The San Jose swim year
When pools open, and when families bookHow kids come up here
The places San Jose swimmers use, youngest first.
- 1Babies to preschool
First water with a parent
Little ones start in the water with a parent close by, at a pool they already know. A private instructor works on calm entries, floating with support, kicking and blowing bubbles, keeping each lesson gentle and short so comfort grows one visit at a time.
- 2Grade school
Building strokes through summer
School-age swimmers build freestyle, backstroke, breathing and treading water during the outdoor season and summer pool days. Lessons at a pool the family arranges let an instructor shape the work around each child, then pick up again around the school year, which runs from mid-August to early June across the area.
- 3Teens
Stroke and fitness work
Teens can sharpen technique on all four strokes, work on turns and build endurance for longer sets. A private instructor at the family's pool can focus on whatever a swimmer wants to improve, whether that is getting ready for a school team or swimming stronger for fitness.
- 4High school
Swimming for the school team
High school swimming here runs under the CIF Central Coast Section, which covers Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, with its swimming and diving championships in May followed by the state finals that same month. Private lessons can help swimmers polish strokes before tryouts.

Water to know about
Stevens Creek Reservoir and Calero Reservoir in San Jose are boating waters, not swimming spots. Lessons build skills and comfort but do not make anyone safe around water, so an adult watches every swimmer, every time.

Talk to the InstaSwim teamCan I pick my instructor?
InstaSwim matches you with an independent instructor based on your location and each swimmer's age and comfort level. You see the instructor's profile before you pay, and you can request a new instructor up to 2 times per package.
Do we need our own pool in San Jose?
Lessons happen at a pool your family arranges: your building's pool, a condo or HOA pool, or a backyard pool. InstaSwim does not own or provide pools. Any pool fees are paid to the pool, not to InstaSwim.
Can a private swim instructor come to our home or building pool in San Jose?
Yes, when the pool allows it. For a building, condo or HOA pool, check the pool rules for guests and instructors first, then set the day and time with your instructor. InstaSwim does not arrange pool access.
Do you offer baby and toddler swim lessons in San Jose?
Yes. Mommy & Me lessons put a parent in the water with babies and toddlers from 6 months, and lessons for ages 3 to 6 work on floating, kicking and breath control. Tell us each child's age when you register so the match accounts for it.
When do I pay?
Registering is free. Once your instructor is confirmed and you agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. Packages of 2 or more lessons can be paid in weekly installments.
What does it cost in San Jose?
Rates are per lesson and set for your ZIP code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate. There is a $20 registration fee per swimmer, refunded only if no lessons take place.
What if the instructor is not the right fit?
Ask for a new instructor from your Match Hub. You can do this up to 2 times per package, and InstaSwim finds the next instructor for you.
Who are the instructors in San Jose?
Independent contractors on the InstaSwim roster, not InstaSwim employees. Every instructor you can be matched with has been background checked, keeps a CPR and First Aid card on file, has finished safety and conduct training, and has signed the contractor agreement. Experience is provided by the instructor, and families review the matched instructor before booking.
Which towns near San Jose do your instructors serve?
Instructors on the San Jose roster also travel to Santa Clara, Campbell, Milpitas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Saratoga, within their own travel radius. Type your ZIP above to see the rates for your town.
Does our San Jose home pool need a safety barrier?
California's Swimming Pool Safety Act requires at least one approved safety barrier for pools and spas built after January 1, 1998, and for pools being remodeled. Options include a fence or wall separating the pool from the home, removable mesh fencing with a self-closing, self-latching gate, door alarms and pool alarms. Check local requirements when you apply for a building permit.
Will lessons make my child water safe?
No lesson makes anyone safe around water. Lessons build skills, comfort and good habits. An adult should watch every swimmer, every time, at the pool and near open water.
