Experience and teaching history are provided by the instructor. Instructors are independent contractors, not InstaSwim employees. Every instructor you can be matched with has been background checked, keeps a CPR and First Aid card on file, has finished InstaSwim's safety and conduct training, and has signed the contractor agreement. These are eligibility steps, not an endorsement. Review your matched instructor's profile before your first lesson. Some instructors shown are not taking new families right now; your match comes from instructors who are.

- 1Babies to preschool
First splashes with a grown-up
The youngest swimmers usually start with a parent in the water, getting used to splashing, floating with support and blowing bubbles. The YMCA of Greater Houston groups its lessons by age, and a private instructor can meet you and your little one at the pool you arrange for calm, short first sessions.
- 2Grade school
Learn to swim and summer pools
Grade schoolers often take YMCA of Greater Houston lessons, starting at the level that fits their age and ability, and spend summer days at City of Houston pools like Alief Pool. The YMCA also runs Safety Around Water at no cost to attending children and families. Private lessons add focused, one-on-one practice.
- 3Teens
Building strokes and stamina
Teens can keep growing in YMCA of Greater Houston lessons, which are open to children, teens and adults, or work on lap swimming at YMCA pools. A private instructor at your own pool can help a teen polish freestyle, backstroke and turns, or build confidence if they are starting later than friends.
- 4High school
A winter season under UIL
Texas high school swimming is a winter sport run by the University Interscholastic League. Regional meets come in late January, and the state meet for Conferences 4A and below is held in February at Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, with 5A and 6A swimming at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin.

Talk to the InstaSwim teamCan I pick my instructor?
InstaSwim matches you with an independent instructor based on your location and each swimmer's age and comfort level. You see the instructor's profile before you pay, and you can request a new instructor up to 2 times per package.
Do we need our own pool in Houston?
Lessons happen at a pool your family arranges: your building's pool, a condo or HOA pool, or a backyard pool. InstaSwim does not own or provide pools. Any pool fees are paid to the pool, not to InstaSwim.
Can a private swim instructor come to our home or building pool in Houston?
Yes, when the pool allows it. For a building, condo or HOA pool, check the pool rules for guests and instructors first, then set the day and time with your instructor. InstaSwim does not arrange pool access.
Do you offer baby and toddler swim lessons in Houston?
Yes. Mommy & Me lessons put a parent in the water with babies and toddlers from 6 months, and lessons for ages 3 to 6 work on floating, kicking and breath control. Tell us each child's age when you register so the match accounts for it.
When do I pay?
Registering is free. Once your instructor is confirmed and you agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. Packages of 2 or more lessons can be paid in weekly installments.
What does it cost in Houston?
Rates are per lesson and set for your ZIP code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate. There is a $20 registration fee per swimmer, refunded only if no lessons take place.
What if the instructor is not the right fit?
Ask for a new instructor from your Match Hub. You can do this up to 2 times per package, and InstaSwim finds the next instructor for you.
Who are the instructors in Houston?
Independent contractors on the InstaSwim roster, not InstaSwim employees. Every instructor you can be matched with has been background checked, keeps a CPR and First Aid card on file, has finished safety and conduct training, and has signed the contractor agreement. Experience is provided by the instructor, and families review the matched instructor before booking.
Which towns near Houston do your instructors serve?
Instructors on the Houston roster also travel to West University Place, Loryland, Bellaire, Hunters Creek Village, Pasadena and South Houston, within their own travel radius. Type your ZIP above to see the rates for your town.
When are City of Houston public pools open near me?
Houston Parks and Recreation lists its pool season as Memorial Day to Labor Day. In early summer, some aquatic centers, including Alief Pool on Bellaire Boulevard, open on weekends only before wider hours. For swimming outside those months, YMCA of Greater Houston members can use year-round pools across the city.
Can my child keep swimming in Houston after Labor Day?
Yes. The YMCA of Greater Houston offers year-round and heated outdoor pools to members through a city-wide membership, and some locations ask for reservations for lap swimming. Private lessons can also continue at a heated home, building, condo or HOA pool that your family arranges.
Will lessons make my child water safe?
No lesson makes anyone safe around water. Lessons build skills, comfort and good habits. An adult should watch every swimmer, every time, at the pool and near open water.
